The Copernicus programme (Copernicus), previously known as GMES, is based on a partnership between the Union, ESA and the Member States. Copernicus is a programme fully funded by the European Union, in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), to which the Commission has entrusted the tasks relating to the Implementation of the elements of the Copernicus Space Component. ESA has concluded a contract with the Prime Contractor Thales Alenia Space Italia S.p.A (TASI) for the procurement of the Copernicus Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-1D Satellites. The Copernicus Sentinel-1C and -1D Satellites are a follow-on to the current series of two Copernicus Sentinel-1 Satellites, called Sentinel-1A & -1B. TASI intends to publish the Invitation To Tender for the procurement of the Copernicus Sentinel-1C and 1D Automatic Identification of Ships (AIS) Receiver. In the frame of the Sentinel-1 Mission, the Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been introduced on the satellite C&D models in order to augment the SAR Payload Data with AIS information to enable the identification and localization of vessels from space. The AIS payload is composed by the AIS receiver and the AIS antenna assembly. Specifically, this ITT concerns the design, development, testing, validation and preparation for delivery of space based AIS receiver. The AIS receiver is deputed to the acquisition and processing of AIS RF signals received in VHF band coming from the antennas and their transferring towards the spacecraft data storage and downlink subsystem. The present ITT, fully funded by the EU, is addressed to all Union Member States and the States participating in the Copernicus Programme, and contracts may be placed with economic operators from industry and organisations (including subcontractors), whose registered seat is located in all such States. The Union Member States and the States participating in the Copernicus Programme to date are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. ESA BEST PRACTICES IPC(2012)65, rev.2 as amended by the Copernicus Agreement shall apply. No geographical return requirements as defined in the ESA Convention, are applicable to this ITT.
