Objective: The objective of the activity is to perform a Q/V-band propagation campaign in a tropical climate to characterise the channel model and its short to medium range spatio-temporal properties for future Q/V-band satcom systems. Targeted Improvements: Enabling the deployment of SatCom Q/V-band systems in tropical regions. Description: Extremely High Frequency (EHF) payloads are currently available in GEO making it possible to perform Q/V band propagation campaigns in tropical regions. The campaign that this activity will carry out represents a natural follow up of the on-going Alphasat Aldo Paraboni Q/V band campaign in Europe and the Ka Band Tropical ARTES campaign run with Syracuse 3 satellite in Malaysia. The activity will use a number of receivers located at distances from few km to 100km to characterise site diversity gain in tropical regions where the spatio-temporal fluctuations of gaseous, cloudand rain attenuation are yet to be assessed. This will allow to upgrade site-diversity models in Q/V band. The activity will also collect reference data to improve and to test signal propagation models used for the design of satcom systems and the radio regulations (ITU-R SG3). footnote: On Delegation Request (formerly called Priority 2) activities will only be initiated on the explicit request of at least one National Delegation. Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required.
