Objective: The objective of this activity is to design, manufacture and test new solar array harness solutions (for rigid and flexible solar array) and to develop associated design rules, in order to reduce the solar array harness mass. Targeted Improvements: Solar array (SA) harness mass reduction by 35%; Standardisation SA derating rules in Europe. Description: Today, the solar array harness mass is not optimised and mass reduction can be achieved by considering new harness solutions. Besides, the current generic satellite harness derating rules (ECSS-Q-ST-30-11C) are not optimal when applied to the SA harness, since it is outside the satellite and facing space with good thermal dissipation in comparison with the internal satellite (or equipment) harness. Different SA harness solutions with wire bundles, flat wire configuration, printed circuit board, etc., will be studied, considering the highest temperatures for the sizing. Some test configurations will be proposed, like panel substrate equipped with harness, harness between SA panels and yoke tube equipped with harness. Rigid and flexible SA panels shall be considered in this activity. The different configurations will be tested and compared to the current SA harness solutions. The thermal model used will be correlated and the margins identified. New derating rules shall be proposed to serve as basis to revise ECSS derating rules for SA. footnote: On Delegation Request (formerly called Priority 2) activities will only be initiated on the explicit request of at least one National Delegation.
