The activity consists of calculating the count rate, or upper limit to the count rate, for each beam in all of the XMM-Newton pointed and slew observations. These values shall be stored in a form such that they may be rapidly retrieved and served to the user. Dueto the good spatial resolution of the XMM-Newton mirrors the number of independent points that need to be calculated is very large,implying that the final data storage area will also be large. As XMM-Newton will generate by far the largest dataset, it is expected that the solution built during this project will be easily extendable to other missions, with lower spatial resolution, such as ROSAT and EXOSAT. The software and databases developed will be integrated within the XMM-Newton science archive so that they can be continuously updated as new observations are processed and ingested into the archive.
