List of main tasks: 1) State of the art survey. The lessons learnt from the MREP activity "Mechanisms operating at low temperature"(Contract No. 4000105947/12/NL/HB), as well as the heritage of ExoMars and PROSPECT(lunar driller) rotary actuators development shall be properly taken into account. 2) Critical review of the preliminary requirements from the ITT and refinement of the operationaland rotary actuator performance requirements as well as environmental constraints. The set of specifications shall be derived from upper level requirements coming from both the Driving and Steering systems use cases. Outcomes from the SFR system study shall be properly considered. 3) Trade-off and selection of the most suitable technology in terms of motor, gearbox(es), rate/position/commutation sensor options. Particular attention should be paid to power efficiency, thermal performance reliability and life considering the operational environment of the SFR. 4) Preliminary and Detailed Design and Analysis for the transmission assembly, including the housing and connections between motor and gearbox(es), seals for dust protection, sensors, wheel hub's bearings, possible brake, etc.Breadboarding of concepts and confidence testing of components. 5) Procurement, manufacturing and assembly of two Life Test Model (LTM) of the mechanism, as well as the needed test support equipment. 6) Testing of one LTM, including: - Thermal-Vacuum cycling. - Mechanical vibration/Shock - Life test representing the Mars environment and the SFR operational loads. Dust and soil immersion testsshall be included. The number of revolutions shall be derived from the upper level requirement to travel for a distance of 30 km (TBC). - Functional and performance tests to verify functional and performance requirements at beginning and at the end of life (e.g. efficiency, peak torque capacity, strength wrt external loads, contamination from dust etc.). The second LTM will be used for additionaltests at system level, and/or as spare. 7) Post-test investigations and implementation plan for qualification and flight implementation. The Agency will ensure a close link with the SFR phase A/B1 (including breadboard activity)
